“The BKT dining table represents an important step in our studio’s ongoing work with resin—a material we have spent years learning to understand, shape, and explore in new ways. We have always been interested in how materials behave, not just on a technical level, but also in how they can contribute to the overall experience of using and viewing an object. With resin, we have found a material that constantly challenges us, offering both creative freedom and complex technical demands. The most distinctive feature of this piece is its set of legs. At first glance, their sculptural form might seem purely aesthetic, but the design is the result of a long process of testing, iteration, and problem-solving. Every curve, angle, and transition has been carefully thought through, balancing visual impact with structural purpose. One of our main goals was to create each leg from a single, seamless cast of resin. This was not just for the clean look—it also allowed us to explore what is possible with the material itself. Casting resin at this scale presents real technical hurdles. The process requires precise control over temperature and timing, accurate mixing of components, and a clear understanding of how resin behaves as it cures. Even slight deviations can cause bubbles, discoloration, or weak points that make the piece unusable. Achieving a smooth, defect-free finish at this size is difficult, and success depends on both careful planning and attention to every step of the process. At the same time, we were aiming for a form that would use as little resin as possible while still supporting the large tabletop securely. This pushed us to develop a leg design that was not only strong but also efficient. The result is a shape that combines flat surfaces with soft, continuous curves—something that looks simple but is actually quite complex behind the scenes. It is a practical solution, but one that also defines the visual identity of the table. An unexpected outcome of this design is how the piece interacts with light. Resin’s natural translucency means that the thickness and curves of the legs influence how light passes through them. Thicker areas appear darker and richer, while thinner sections glow more brightly. The light shifts depending on the time of day, the surroundings, and the angle from which the table is viewed. This subtle transformation gives the piece a sense of movement and variation, making it feel more alive and connected to its environment. In the end, the table is the result of many overlapping ideas—technical, functional, and visual. It reflects our ongoing interest in working with challenging materials, refining our processes, and finding beauty through thoughtful design and careful execution.”
